RECEIVES KEEP SEDONA BEAUTIFUL AWARD

Bill Pumphrey, President of Keep Sedona Beautiful, Inc., announces the selection of El Portal as the organization’s recipient of its 2003 award for new construction.

“The mission of Keep Sedona Beautiful is to assist in the preservation of the natural beauty of Sedona and its surroundings by all practical means,” said Pumphrey, “and El Portal is one of the most outstanding examples in recent years of architectural significance that is in harmony with the character of the area and the natural environment.”

El Portal owners Steve and Connie Segner opened the doors to their property in May, 2003, and already is has been widely recognized by the media, local residents and Sedona visitors as an architectural landmark.
Renowned architectural firm Design Group Architects of Sedona created El Portal’s authentic 1910 adobe design with more remarkable historic detail.

Every mud brick was crafted by hand. Walls are a stout 18-inches thick offering the privacy and solitude. Other special features include 200-year-old reclaimed wood, 100-year-old doorknobs, original 1900-1930 antiques including Tiffany, Frank Lloyd Wright and other Arts & Crafts-era designers, plus original lighting, artwork and furnishings from the period.
Today’s luxury and convenience are not overlooked. 12 suites include 400 thread count Egyptian cotton linens, cashmere blankets, whirlpool tubs, and DVDs as well as fireplaces, private patios and fabulous red rock views.
