Just over 45 minutes from El Portal Sedona Hotel is Fort Verde Historic Park; a historic fort in Arizona. From 1865 through 1890 Camp Lincoln, Camp Verde, and finally Fort Verde were home to officers, doctors, families, enlisted men and scouts. Today you can experience three historic house museums, the Commanding Officer’s Quarters, Bachelors’ Quarters and Doctor’s Quarters on Officer’s row, all furnished in the 1880s period and holiday grace.
Fort Verde State Historic Park is currently decorated for the holidays, giving visitors a glance into the past to see how those who once resided at the Fort celebrated Christmas on the Frontier. Christmas trees and fireplace mantels will be adorned with unique Victorian decorations, while wreaths and garlands help spread the holiday cheer.
Even though Christmas is over, this is a great family trip into Arizona’s past. Pile in the car, hit the road, take in the fort, and head then “home” to El Portal, for a yummy cookie by the fireplace, or a lovely glass of wine!
Guests of the luxury inn have access to highly personalized concierge services for Sedona and area. We will help you plan a day trip to the Grand Canyon, a family tour of Fort Verde, or hiking one of the many trails in the area.
