“After reading the reviews of others and knowing we would be travelling with our dog, we settled on El Portal and couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. From the moment we entered the property the staff were very helpful, friendly and professional. As most other properties only tolerate pets, El Portal welcomes them with open arms and with very few restrictions. We would like to see grass or some other ground vegetation in the pet area, since most dogs like to do their “business” in a grassy area. Pets are not allowed on the grass in the courtyard area. The best pet areas for going potty are the Los Abrigados resort areas (just a short walk from the El Portal), specifically the park that runs along the creek. We stayed in Room 6 (The Hile room) and it was lovely. High ceilings (no upstairs neighbor noise to worry about), unbelievable bathroom, private/secluded entrance, and a comfortable but firm bed. The pictures on the website very accurately portray this amazing place (no trick photography here). We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return. Thank you Steve, Connie, Heather and the entire staff.” (TripAdvisor Wheats34, 6/18/10)

This place is awesome! It is a mix between a bed & breakfast and a 5 star hotel. Nestled in the hill side, the place is small (12 rooms I believe) with a central courtyard that draws you there for the evening wood fire. Several of the units accept pets as well. The food served in the dining room was very good, but there was nothing included with the room rate. The rates are high but you can watch for specials or even call last minute to get a hefty discount on additional nights. Well worth the money. We will be going back soon! (insiderpages.com Fred M.)

“We spent several days at this wonderful establishment . The uniqueness of the rooms are just the begginning of exceptional experience we had at El Portal. The inn owner Steve is a delightful host . He has a passion for not only this property but for his home also.He allowed us to visit his home , which in and of itself is a treasure . The location of El Portal is almost perfect with respect to Sedona . The courtyard is a relaxing area for sipping wine and watching birds that frequent the feeder placed therein. The breakfasts were of good quality and the wine , priced by the glass, and served later in the day were nice. Fran , whom acts as concierge and guide , as well as independent business owner , made everythig I requested come to pass. She arranged tours , dinners , and even during an unexpected no-show of our previously hired guide , filled in more than admirably. She took us to places I would have never discovered , even though I have previously visited Sedona. She is an another gem of this truly wonderful place. The only slightly negative notes I would state about El Portal are , the lack of safes in the rooms and the somewhat nickel and dime charges imposed for soda’s and other non-alcoholic drinks. For the price charged , I would add another $5 / day and let thedrinks be “free”. We will be back next year , that’s for sure !!” (TripAdvisor.com, tbogey1, June 13, 2010)

Notes: Rates range from about $200 to $500, per night, per couple. Pricey? For those who can afford it, hands down, I think El Portal Hotel is the best value in town.

This is a very pet-friendly place, even for large pets. And kids are also very welcome here.”  (SedonaHappy.com Review).
