We invite you to explore our newly redesigned website that highlights our unique artistic features, or better yet, plan a visit to El Portal and learn more about our collection!

A Historic Haven for Creativity

Located on the historic Schnebley family homestead, El Portal blends the rich history of Sedona with the city’s ever-evolving artistic spirit. From the moment guests arrive, they are immersed in an environment where craftsmanship and creativity take center stage. Each of the hotel’s 12 uniquely designed suites is a curated masterpiece, featuring handcrafted furnishings, intricate decorative details, and architectural elements that celebrate the region’s artistic heritage.

With the enchanting Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village just steps away from El Portal, guests are within easy walking distance of over 50 galleries and boutiques showcasing the best of Sedona’s creative community, as well as an array of restaurants and cafés. Whether you’re drawn to intricate pottery, breathtaking paintings, or handcrafted jewelry, you’ll find an inspiring selection of one-of-a-kind items amidst our local shops and galleries.

Art Within the Walls

El Portal is not only a gateway to Sedona’s artistic community, but also a gallery in its own right. Among the hotel’s many treasures are two original paintings by Alphonse Mucha, one of the most celebrated artists of the Art Nouveau movement.

The story behind these two masterpieces is as captivating as the artwork itself. Owners Steve and Connie Segner discovered the Mucha paintings in the 1980s in a Pasadena, Calif. antique shop, drawn in by their Slavic-inspired elegance. They soon discovered that the pieces had a rich and winding history, once owned by the L.A. Art Museum before passing through the hands of collectors and art restorers. Now, these stunning paintings have found their permanent home at El Portal, where guests can admire their beauty up close.

An Invitation to Art Enthusiasts

In addition to welcoming our hotel guests, El Portal is open to the public daily for any visitors who would like to explore our art-filled spaces. Whether you’re staying the night or simply passing through, you’re welcome to stop by and experience the timeless beauty of our collection, including turn-of-the-century paintings, period lighting, and museum-quality Arts and Crafts furnishings.

A Stay that Becomes a Story

In addition to our intriguing artwork, architecture, and décor, El Portal is known for our personalized concierge services and welcoming atmosphere of unpretentious luxury. As one of only seven hotels in Arizona to receive a prestigious MICHELIN Key Award in 2024, El Portal sets the standard for exceptional hospitality, ensuring that each guest (and their pets!) are welcomed into a sanctuary of warmth, privacy, and comfort. Our goal is to provide an experience that feels less like a traditional hotel and more like a genuine home away from home. Guests frequently note these features in five-star reviews, including one that we recently received from a TripAdvisor user:

I cannot recommend El Portal enough for those who want a cozy, homey eclectic and non-commercial warmly personal experience! I just stayed there solo over Christmas and it’s very challenging to find a situation during a time people usually spend together, with enough privacy yet amenities, atmosphere, activities and beauty that for me, it was the best solo Christmas ever!

“I stayed 5 nights in #10 the Greene and Greene room. It was bigger and more beautiful than the site photos can depict. Everything from the soft blue/ green stucco walls to the private deck fire pit to the jetted tub and the sound of the fountain outside made staying inside lovely as well as a short walk across to Tlaquepaque and a central location from which to drive to hiking and the landscape just perfect for me. The lovely touches such as the lobby fireplace lit, the morning coffee made early and the goodies in the 24-hour area for guests made the welcome feel even warmer.”
