What Do Guests Love About El Portal Sedona Hotel? Read Our Recent Reviews to Find Out!

When traveling, the hotel where you stay can make or break your trip. While the Sedona, Arizona area offers many wonderful hotel options, we are proud that our guests love the unique charm, personalized service, ideal location, and pet-friendly atmosphere that El Portal provides. To learn more about what makes El Portal so special, check out these excerpts from recent reviews we’ve received!

Style and Ambience

In designing El Portal, owners Steve and Connie Segner were inspired by their passion for Arts-and-Crafts and Spanish-revival architecture and décor, incorporating furnishings and works of art from their personal collection to create a one-of-a-kind ambience throughout the property. From windows framed in recycled 200-year-old wood to reclaimed Trestlewood® beams—which formed a trestle that carried rail traffic across Utah’s Great Salt Lake for the first half of the 20th century—El Portal was constructed by hand and eye, just as it would have been around the turn of the century.

Our guests have noted the property’s unique style and hand-selected touches, with reviews noting:

“This was our first trip to Sedona and I can count on one hand how many places I’ve stayed where my room is so cozy that I could stay in it for the whole stay. We overlooked the beautiful courtyard and had a stunning view of the rocks. The hotel itself is quirky and kitschy and completely fabulous.” – Review from Jan. 30, 2024

“When I say cozy, I mean it! [El Portal] was so welcoming and warm when we returned to our space in the Grand Canyon Room after a day out exploring vortexes and crystal shops. It was cold and we left the fireplace on the entire time. It was like a friend, welcoming us home. We had everything we needed, including cozy robes to wear when going to get coffee in the “lodge” (main area which felt like an extended part of our room) and there was a refrigerator for our leftovers from restaurants. The room was exceptionally clean and well appointed!… Hotel is pup-friendly and although we travel sans dog, we were happy to meet the guests’ pets.” – Review from Jan. 24, 2024

Personalized Service

At El Portal, our small but dedicated team takes pride in delivering personalized concierge services to help each guest make the most of their time in Sedona, no matter their schedule and interests. Here’s what recent visitors had to say about the service we provide:

“Steve and the rest of the staff were so friendly and welcoming. All of the recommendations they gave to us, from tours to restaurants to a wonderful massage place, were spot on.” – Review from Jan. 30, 2024

“[Steve and Connie] are the real deal…completely there to accommodate and make your stay the best. Not only did they lovingly create and build the hotel, they will treat you right. Everything from detailed info on the best route to take to the Grand Canyon to avoid the crowds to advising us to reserve a table at Elote 2 months in advance of our trip (DO IT!!!!), they know their stuff! Oh! And don’t forget to ask them about visiting the ghost town of Jerome. We only stopped there on our way out of town but wish we had listened to Steve and taken a day trip there!… I could go on and on but I’ll end with this: Look no further. This is the place you want to stay! I look forward to reading your review saying how right I was when you get back from Sedona! Oh, and say hi to Steve and Connie from me. :)” – Review from Jan. 24, 2024

Location

Located in the heart of Sedona, just a few steps from a vast assortment of restaurants, shops, and galleries at the enchanting Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, El Portal is close to all of the area’s highlights—yet it offers a tranquil respite from the bustle of the city. Our ideal location is one of the main advantages that guests note, with recent reviews stating:

“Cozy and central…right near the action. Seriously. Walk to shops and restaurants or a short car ride to other sites like Sedona’s downtown. Yet El Portal is tucked away and a private oasis. Trust me on this! You want to stay here.” – Review from Jan. 24, 2024

“The hotel is within walking distance to shopping and restaurants. We will most definitely be back.” – Review from Jan. 30, 2024

Amenities

Guests also love the special amenities we provide to make their stay as comfortable as possible, noting:

“This property is a jewel. Great location. Rooms are fantastic and unique. The amenities are top notch with a daily fire pit in the outdoor courtyard for relaxing at the end of a day exploring the amazing area.” – Review from Feb. 1, 2024

“This is not a B&B but feels like one. In the morning, guests gather to eat breakfast and drink coffee and tea in the lodge. Steve and Connie put our pastries, bagels and breads. There is also ALWAYS complimentary food available all day long like fruits, yogurts, hummus, crackers, cheese, guacamole, and chips and cookies! We took food on the road with us every day and saved money that way to splurge on dinners like at Elote, Mariposa and Picazzo’s (highly recommend these 3 restaurants!)…Although we didn’t use it, a short walk next door will give you access to a hot tub and pool as well as gym and steam/sauna room.” – Review from Jan. 24, 2024

In addition to our stellar reviews, El Portal has earned numerous awards from travel services and publications over the years, including a 2024 Traveller Review Award from Booking.com, a 2022 Travelers’ Choice Award from Tripadvisor, a 2022 KAYAK Travel Award, and a AAA Four Diamond designation.
